SAVAGE _Str-The new road through this settlement i8& disgrace to the Government and the public cflicials. The old road is obstruct: ed, and the new road is more like a crazy quilt than a road, as it has been done in patches. Some of those patches are not even passable, as the light of a match is not sufficient after night to show up rocks and roots. There is no getting in or out without endangering property. Who ir paying for the opening of the said road— the Government or the Supervisor? If the former, why not do their own whining ani barking about the cost of it? If the latter, that accounts for his whining and barking. Or were there any grant allowed forthe opening of this road? Our old road was left neglected last year, with the understanding that there was no money for repairing, as the money was used for the opening of this unfinished road, which was to be opened the first of this month to the public. If all the petitions prayed for at the last session for the opening of new roads are obstructed § as this one has been for the last five years I sympathize with the parties in question. | I hope that every honest-minded Liberal will discover their mistake before the com- ing election ax I think the country needs a change of officials as four years is ample and sufficient to sport a boiied collar and government coat; a longer term mz.ght deprive them of the memory of the dear old homespun jackets, _ Many thanksto Tar Examrver for space in its precious columns in turning the search-light on the neglect that is mono- polized by the officials in the finishing of the road, and also the neglect of the annual work to our public roads, thus depriving the people of their rights to the most beautiful spot in the province. When Bridget was asked to make an apology she said, “How can I make it, ma’am, without butter or eggs to make it?” Not so with this road. There is neither batter or eggs or an apology wanted, as there are plenty men ready with lots of material todo the work, and do it well, if paid for their services.
