"Never worry _about a man. Many ladies profess to` find it difficult to select holiday gifts for men, but it need not be difficult at all. A man is the easiest creature in the world to suit. If he is n smoker, he would be entirely' satisfied if every one of his gifts were good cigars. We have the cigars he likes and smokes every day. J. G. The great musical comedy "The Isle of Wells Woo~Loo" will he pro- duced hy the Charlottetown Operatic Society on Jan. 6th and 7th. The scene takes place on an imag- inary island in the Pacific Ocean. The action starts when several sail- ors from Old England get wrecked on the rocky shore of the island. They think that they have landed on one of the Cannabil Islands as there are several near there. But instead of failing into nie hands of an enemy, and eaten alive they are all promoted to the highest dignlties. One of the jolly crew "Bengy Binks” (played by Frank Oliver) is delegated to marry the beautiful Princess Ilola. The gods and her father, the King, have de- creed thst she must marry to save the realm. The old' lover of the Prin- cess was exiled and it has been ru- mored that he has since died. As the Princess must marry, Bengy is elect- ed for the job. One of the rules of the island is that when s husband or wife dies, the survivor is buried alive.‘ After the wedding is over the Princess be- comes ill and is pining for the lost Prince. When Bengy hears that she is noi; expected to live and that he must he buried falive if she should die he almost succumbs of fright, and tries to gain time in order to und a substitute. Finally the'gong is sounded, whichannounces the dis- solution of the Princess, and Bengy dissolves like a snow ball. The theme affords no end of com- edy, nnd the part of Bcngy in the hands of a _comedian with the experi- ence snd popularity of Mr. Oliver, it ter from start to finish. ` In the ond the real Prince turns up and all ends happily, as all good stories should. The music is something out of the ordinary, every bit of it is catchy and sure to become popular. The Guardian strongly advises its patrons not to miss ‘seeing The Isle of Walla Woo-Doo. , #Qi f Remember Your Forgotten Friends New Yesr’s Is put on the cel- endsr ihstlf ,by any chsncs you have forgotten your friend during the rush of' buying for Christmas yoi may still remimber l:im with s noel. appropriate and prsctlcsl gift for New Years.
