On August i7, 1946, he was appointed freight agent at Char- lottetown, retiring on pension or. June 30, 1947. On February 10. lQ-i8. he was elected Councillor for Ward One at the civic elections. After his election, he was appointed chair- man of the Fire Committee. Pre- viously he liad served several terms as Town Councillor in Souris and was for two terms Mayor o.‘ that municipality. Mr. Holland was a member of the Prince Edward Island Temp- erance Commission, having becii named to that; board when it came into being on April 8, i948. He was particularly well known. especially in Charlottetown and the eastern section of the Prov- inca where he had lived the greater part of his life. His friends were legion because of his fine personality and readin- ess to co-operate in every worth- while endeavour. Every deserving cause had his wholeheartied sup- port. and he discharged all his public duties well and faithfully. l-lc was a valued member of St. Dunstanb Basilica Holy Name So- ciety, the Charlottetown Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Benevolent Irish Society. The late Mr. Holland was twice rrfarrled. His first wife was the late Agnes MacCormac, Launching. Several years after her death he married Catherine Benton, Plant Point. who survives him.
