Young Joe Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ryan. had the mis- fortune to fall over a fence he was climbing on recently, breaking his arm below the elbow. He still has his arm in a cast and will be that way for some time yet. some of the schools that had only six weeks vacation in the summer are closed for two weeks now. for fall vacation. and potato picking. Bristol School remains open from September 1st. Mr. John Francis arrived here October 2nd to visit his daughter Betty. Mrs. William Eldershaw, whom he had not seen for twen- ty-flve years. Mr. Francis came from Newfoundland and this is the m'st.,time he has ever been here. Strangely enough, Mrs. Eldershaw did not. know her fath- er on his arrival, as she was ll child when they last saw each other. Friends and'relatives here re- gret to learn of the serious illness of Constable Reginald Burns of the City Police Force, who is a patient in the Charlottetown Hos- pital suffering from an attack of pneumonia. Bristol is his home port, and everyone hopes to see him around very shortly. ..'Mr. Frank Weed, who arrived here some time ago from Penn- sylvania, U. S. A., to train dogs for hunting, has in the vicinity of forty dogs here at present. and has sent out 9. call for pigeons for the trails. He is residing at Mrs. Earl Drake's farm, that has been closed for some time, and several doctors on hunting trips U. S. A. have arrived here with trailers to live in dur- lng their stay. one farmer here reports he took two live hogs to the city on Mon- day. September 29, and the price he received when figured up did not pay for their feed. Park is down to the farmers but. plenty high for those who buy it. Mr. G. Nolan, whifbellevee in getting things done in time, has already cut. and hauled home his next year's supply of wood, and looking over the pile one would guess there is more than twenty cards in his yard ready for the saw. Her friends are sorry to learn of the poor health of Mrs. Matilda Eldershaw at her home at Red Head Shore where she has spent. the summer months. Despite the" very dry season farmers here have done 1 lot of ploughing as they say this work must be done in time, dry or wet season. Most of the work is done by tractor Dloughs now. speaking of the ploughing matches with tractors, some of the old timers still recall the late .Plus Walsh. In this Vlllinlty he was acclaimed the lrrelliest single plough man the Is- land ever knew, for turning even sod in the long fields on his form. A son Joe, still on the old home- stead. no doubt can well remem- ber hls father and his ploughing -that attracted everyone who come this way, long before tractors were even a dream. When Mr. William MacDonald retires from the C. N. R. section crew here in November ihe will no doubt move to the City to reside. where eight of his large family make their home at present. Mrs. MacDonald and four of the fam- ily still st home, will go to the City also. Mr. MacDonald served part. of his time on other sections. some years in Sourlo, but the lbnsest time has been on the home section here. He has walked thousands of miles winter and summer over the track and served as foreman at different times, but turned down the chance for fore- man on some other section away from home. The average size of each class- room is lipproximately 30 feet by 22 feet, and each room contains coat lockers, a teacher's locker and a book case, together with a black- board on each of the walls. Day lighting will, be by five large windows in each room, and night lighting by fluorescent. lights. The rooms will be finished in ten-test, and the wainscoating of a masonlte finish. , : The left mm of the "T" will be a teachers room, and the right. arm will be the main entrancz which will face south. The basement will include the furnace room. laboratory, storage rooms. room for possible kitchen, lavatories, space "for 3. possible health room. and an auditorium. The building will be heated by an oil furnace, and the heat con- ducted by pipes to all parts of the building. In the laboratory are three to four exlperimental tables and equipment shelving, and to the rear is a storage room for chemis- try and physics stock. Although the space is being provided. it is not definite whether the kitchen wli be finished. but it is a matter for Septem.ber'19th. Nine members and one visitor attended. The president Mrs. Wm. D. Fraser was in the chair. Mrs. George Cllrrey, in the absence of Mrs. Colin MacDonald. secretary-treasurer, attended to the business of the meeting. After roll call and collgction there was .l lengthy discussion on the ways and means of raising funds-several suggestions given by different mem- bers were contemplated. A num- ber of items which are being made were reported well under way. At. the conclusion of the evening, members chatted while enjoying the dainty luncheon served by the hostesses. Thirteen members of the Ivy Junior Red Cross met at Whim Road School on Friday afternoon, October 3rd for their meeting. The prcsldenl, Betty MacBeth, was in the chair, with the-secretary. Bob Stuart reading the minutes of the previous meeting and attending to the business of the meeting.
