How To RUN a Parnn.-—The man who thinks he can't run »a newspaper bet'er rhan the editor, should be caught and put so a glass case. Correspondents do not hesitate to give the editor “points," but ahere is a man down in King's County who is lopping over with gall. Some time ago he sent us someitenxs from his sec- tion. 0:18 of the “items" was apolitical sermon and another contained an_account. of a purely business transacti m, reflect- ing on the busiuesatintegrity of a certain gentleman. Wednesday’: mail brought us a letter from the correspondent, from which we make the following extract: “If you think you can run your paper with the one-legged fempsrancc questidn as a hobby, and no- zlect to expose other matters of interoper- ance equally as important, you will soon get your paper left in the shades of ob- scurity.” Our friend would no doubt be greatly pleased were we to drop the tem- perance plank iu our platform and adopt his particular political ideas. But really we cannot oblige him just now . Our paper is a t-mperance advocate and not a political one, and‘we cannot . change our views in order to meet those of our. es- teemed correspondent. Plnnnanuonrd.’-According to notice, a large and enthusiastic meeting of the society assembled at Philharmonic Hall Monday evening, and, it is almost need- less to add,‘ all were unanimous in the opinion that, notwithstanding the main dilliculties they have had to eccdunter in the past,,r.h-ay can now congratulate them- selves on the fact that the music-loving people of Charlottetown and Summerside have, by their kind response, shown their appreciation of the efiorts of the society to maintain the standard of high-class performances in this province.. And al- though by some for persons it may be considered pregumptuous on the partof the society to attempt to produce oratories such as The Creation, Hymn of Praise,'l‘he Elijah, etc., with the material obtainable in this city, still they feel that in so doing they have the public sympathy with them by a, large majority, and the correspondence which has ap- pearel in the public press during the past- days has more than reassured them ion this point. ‘They have, therefore, ‘determined as in the past to hold the fort againll: all anuooymoua scribblers such as 1“ Obadiah, " ‘~‘.Mendelsaohn's Ghost,” etc., and have -decided to at once begin _ work for a concert to behold in the latter part of June, and rhev take this appor- tunity of agaiuinviting all who won ike to identify themselves with the society to attend the practice on‘ Monday‘ «evening next. the 16th inst., at 8 c’clock.
