MONTREAL (lCl‘P) were generally higher in the in- dustrial section of the Montreal and Canadian stock exchanges Thursday. Trading was fairly active. The banks were strong with Royal up 2 at 78, a new, high. Montreal gained as at 54 and Commerce advanced 1% at 57. Up a point in the base metals were Aluminium at 31 and Asbes- tos at 34. Nickel gained "/3 at 85%. The refining oils and pipelines lower 2.86%; Prices were mixed with Imperial 011 up 914 at 42. * Up 174 in the papers were Brown at 41, a new high, Anglo Newfoundland at 67/3 and Consol- idated at 42. In the construction issues Dc- minion Tar was up ‘21 at 14 and Dominion Bridge declined % at 21. In the utilities Bell was off ‘73 at 41%, while International ad- vanced 3/5 at 28%. In the steels Algoma was up ’74 at 343/4 and Dominion Foundries lost 3/6; at 40. In other issues traded Bruck A was up 1 at 9% and CPR gained 7! at 29. The mines and oils were irreg- ularly lower. The closing averages show (banks up .65 at 60.10, a newhigh, utilities ofif .1 at 148.8, industriais up .1 at 292.8, combined up .1 at 244.8, papers up 2.3 at 457.5 and golds off .02 at 31.39. ' 0n index base ’inetalis were ahead onehalf while western oils and golds added around one third. Speculatives were generally quiet. Fatima. was the big winner. ahead 15 cents at $1.10. New My— lavmaque, alter trading slowly this morning, picked up, gaining 4 cents at $1.09. Among the most active mines, three gained, two lost. Golds and western oils were the lightest traded sections. Hol- linzcr added at 29% to lead golds while Calgary and Edmon- ton was up "/24 at 253.1 in western 011s. Senior mines, especially those with copper h o l d i n g s, were strong in base metals. Observers said a firminz in copper prices led to the. advance. International 855». Steep Rock gamed it at 1131. GEORGE B. HUME There passed away at the King’s County Memorial Hos- pital Montague, on November 15th, 1958, Mr. George Bears Hume of Brooklyn, P. E. 1. Born at Brooklyn, July 9th. 1880, son of the late David Hume and his wife Elizabeth Bears. Besides Mr. Hume the family were: Charles William, Louise (Mrs. Henry Hamilton), Abigal (Mrs. Alex. Beaten), Thomas, who are deceased. A brother Belvin of Brooklyn and a sister Maria, Cambridge, Mass, are still living. When a young man Mr. Hume moved to Attleboro, Mass, where in 1907 he married Lillian MacQuaI-rie. In 1910 he returned to Brooklyn, where he reSIded, except for the past few Winters, where he lived with members of his family, and for the past two winters, he lived in Little Sand- 5 to be near his son.
