Edward Brazil was ` appointed chairman. and expressed himself in fitting terms on the object of the meeting. J. J. McCarthy was then called upon to address the meeting and pointed out the position of this province as placed in by the Inspec- tion Act, coiitending that if the farm ers of this province are to be placed lst the mercy of inspectors. lt was time fo1°'them to go out oi the' busi- ness. A general discussion then fol- lowed by the electors, who denounced inspection, to a man. The following resolutions were re- proposedlby John J. McCarthy and seconded by James Murnaghan and carried- unaqknously; Resolved that our Local Legislative Assembly now in session, prepare a Remedial Bill and forward to the Federal Parlia_ ment, now ln session at Ottawa, de~ mandlng a restoration of all our rights and privileges-with reference to meats-as we heretofore enjoyed in thc markets of our Mother Coun- try. Further _Reso1ved, that _owing to the enormous expenditure, the en- forcement of the said Inspection Act in this province, would impose on the tax-payers ol the Dominion and the inconvenience it would occasion our farmers and shippers, who buy ments at all railway stations, scn~~ port whnrvc-s und the_ impracticahility of placing inspectors at all said places. We, as electors condemn its enforcement, as it will be detrimental to the icat industry of this province. And we humbly pray, that our local re- presentatives, in co-operation with our -Federal representatives, will press our claims at’ Ottawa to have the same privileges 10! exporting meats, as vveheretofore enjoyed in the interprovincial markets, and we here demand a satisfactory settle' ment of this question at this pre- sent session oi Parliament. Further Resolved, That viewing with alarm the demahds made by certain associations on our Govern-_ ments, calling for officials such as- sociations only being the voice of their members assembled and not the public in general, we as electors warn our representatives that the filling of a country with unnecessary omcials is an injury to the future interests of a party in power, and an imposition on the industrious tax- payers. _ / It. was moved by John J. Mc- Carthy and seconded by Martin Koughsn, that a copy of the resolii~ tion be sent to the leaders of both political parties of o_ur Local; Leg- islative Asscrglglin It was also moved by Mic él I3eagan,f. that a copy of those resolutions be sent to the Charlottetown papers for |lb»_ lication.-Joseph_ Trainor Secretdiiy. _..,...__~_-_...___ im- lllii uns li* I . ill io #flu Beetspsr 40| ll -1-__-_-1- nys _ »=\-sf this Wlii mrnl, house. box, and DOW mi I0 out well clean and intention. and alley be wilhout go to io all that it of pure vegetable eilectivc antiseptic __qse`;- " '- 'L_ ' _ ROSS Q MATTHEWS Representing I I 'The North American Life Assurance -‘ "' ==Con1pany of Toronto Fl R F=._Tl1e Richmond and Driimmond Fire _ -4' Insurance Company of Montreal.
