Island at St. &tephen. (From ovr own Correspondent. ) SABBATH SERVICES. Rev. A. D. McCully, B. D., preached in the morning in the Confcrence Church at 7 o'clock. There was a Lovefeast at 9.30, which was not largely attended. About 20 persons, lay and ministerial took part in it. At 11 o’clock, Rev. Dr. Rice preached to a large congregation, from 1 John, 3 chap , 8v., the last part of it. It was an excellent sermon. At 3 o’clock there was a Sabbath School Service. It was under the chair- manship of J. D. Chipman, Esq., Superin- tendent of the school. Two yery good speeches were delivered by Revs, J. M. Campbell and J. Read. in the evening the service was conducted by Rev. Dr. Stewart. The church was crowdel.and ex- tra accommodation had to be provided. His sermon was based Philipns, 3rd Chap. and last verse. It was a beautiful sermon, Sacrament was administered afterwards to beth ministers and the laity. In the Presbyterian Church the preschers in the | morning wes Rev. J. M. A vote of thanks was passed to the ex- President, the Seoretary, the Assistant Secretaries, and other officials, There was a long discussien upon the Supernumer- ary Fund, in which Revs. J. 8. Phinney, Dr. Pickard, Dr. Stewart, W. Dobson, J. Shenton, i. Read, T. Marshall, J. Bur- wash, J. R. Narrawey, A. M., H. Daniel, was resolved to give greater attention to this Fund. There was a long discussion about the Book Room affairs, and the priuting of minutes. A mation was passed te allow the Secretary to get the minutes printed wherever it could be done the cheapest and best, A further conversation of Book Rooms was left over till the Rev. : os Huestis came. The name of the Rev. J. T. Baxendale was reported as having left our ae during the past year, AFTERNOON SESSION, Conference opened in the usual form. tev. J. S. Phinney, ex-President, resigned his position as a member of the General Conference. Resignation was accepted. A long discussion ensued relative to the legality of any election that might be made. Dr. Stewart was elected by a very large majority to fill the vacancy. br. Pope moved and Rev. R, Narraway seconded a resolution to be sent to the ad- journed Conference, relative to the omis- sion of any reference to the restrictive rules in the basis of the Union. Severai brethren spoke in fav or of it. It was carried unani- mously. Rev. S. F. Huestis, Book Steward, was asked to take a seat on the platform. He made a few remarks, but reserved a ful- ler sta‘ement till afterwards. Dr. loch was introduced to the Conference and promised to speak afterwards. Rey. J. R. Borden, Nova Scotia Conference, was introduced and made a short speech. Thanks were voted to the President for his impartial conduct in the Chair during the debate on the Basis of Union. After this the Con ference united to sing the Doxology. On the suggestion of Rev. D. D.
