"I think bi' our work we have jusitiied our existance in the community in which We live. We have bought imperial Wgistered stock for the three sec- tions represented here, two animals been supplied during the year to thc North River section. One of these animals represents one of our best flair? breeds; the other representing the most. popular beef breeds." . . . . “During the year we got whole- sale cuts on farm seeds and binder twine which in doubt paid our lu- stitute fees many times over." After referring to the ociul gath- erings and the picnics at the Exper- imental 'Fsrm last. summer, Mr. Mc- Millan said that the Farmers Insti- tute is a co-operative association in which all work together for the com- mon good thus it helps to foster a spirit of unseltlshness. This year they had the largest membership yet and next year promises to be better. The farmers should take advantage ,oil the present nigh prices of farm pro- ducts, and raise all the bust that can be produced, to feed the people who do not raise these things. in conclusion the President. referred to the good work -being done by the Ladies’ Institute of Cornwall. North? River and West River. The Secret- ary then read his report which was on motion adopted. The following are the directors el- ected for the ensuing year. It is necessary to improve the fertility of the soil and to grow larger crops, as it, is the last few bushels of the crop that pays the profit. Ha urged the importance of in.- proving the fertility of the soil by returning material to it by feeding all on the farm. The farmer should he sure that his seed is good, and should select large plump grain. The farmer should apply business princi- ples to his work, by getting into line with the beat grades of seed and salsble stock. _ The professor spoke at considerable length on the feeding and care oi inillr cows. Much improvements can be made all 'branches of farming. (1) By the feeding of properly bai- anced food rations so as to get the best returns. (2) By conserving the manure and applying it so as to get the best return with smallest possi- ble loss. (3) By growing from the soil crops that will give the largest returns. On motion of Mr. Wm. Crosby sec- onded by Mr. Geo. McDonald the thanks of the Institute were tendered Mr. Ross for his address.
