Smelt- ers closed a point higher at 60, in- ternational Nickel held a gain of one halt and Noranda finished 5-8 higher. Hollinger yielded a, minor fraction. Rails were magnant and in papers fractional losses and gains were evenly distributed. St. Lawrence paper preferred was a. bright spot with a. two-point gain at 3'7. Total sales: Indust-rials 19.300; Mines 133.300; Bonds $1,350. I Livestock MONTREAL. Jan. 31 -—(CP)— Today's livestock receipts totalled _ 1,430 cattle, 712 calves, 1B5 sheep and lambs, 1.573 hogs. Cattle were moving slowly at prices estimated to be between 25 and 50 cents lower than last Mon- day's sales. Good steers sold from $5.25 to $6, medium steers $4.50 to $5.25 and common steers from $3‘. 25 to $4.25. Heifers ranged from .26 to $5.25 with an odd top at .50. 000d butcher cows were to $4.25, medium butchers $3.- to $3.75 and common $2.75 to Canners and cuttrs were from to $2.50. 100 more steers were sold for export to Great Britain and a couple of carloads of steers and cows for shipment to a Can- adian point.
