Dr. Anderson, form- mally opened the Summer School of Science and in a short. pithy address welcomed the school on behalf of the Educational Board and the Teachers of ii the Province. Hon. E.Hughes endorsed the wel~ comes given and ventured to assure the visitors that the Tourist Association would see that equally fine weather should be at the visliors command. The doors of the Provincial Library and Museum were wide open tothe visitors during their stay. He read a cordial invitation for our guests to avail them- selves of the privilege of the Abegwllt Athletic (grounds. He further placed the Executive of the Tourist Association in the hands of the School to do anythlig that would add to the pleasure of their stay, Misa Amy Earle gave one of her delight- ful solos, charming all by sweetness of tone and purity and sympathy of en uncialion. The learned doctor warmly advocates forrestry. With the aid of science the knowing the helpers and deterrents to fructility in the soil we can quadruple our present crops. He will not have as great a chance as elsewhere of helping his geological co-students as the Island has few rocks, but matters of interest are not wanting everywhere.
