Education Program At Montague 10?. ....'With the opening 01 Educa- tion Week the thoughts of the citizens have been turned to consider the many phases and problem: being education today. On a nation wide program, edu- cation ia bringing to the people its bid for recognition as one of the greatest factors in the preserving of world peace and the promoting 0! world prosperity. On -P.E.l. a program has been arranged whereby several speck- ers are bringing to the public via radio the many conside stions linking school with the home. in- dusiry with church. and other phases of community life. A spe- cial program will be presented in many schools. and in Montague the public is invited to the school on Wednesday and Thurs- day to watch the teachers with their classes. to ask questions and give advice should they so wim. It is hoped to have a parent- teachen meeting so that the spe- cial problems regarding the school and students may be discussed. The local situation is one worthy of the consideration of the cit- izens oi the town. When the school was built only live rooms were in operation with small classes. Today there are eight rooms and two more are re. quired. During the past year the enrolment has jumped from 200 to 253 students. including some 40 students outside the district. Two rooms were built in the basement two years ago lo lessen the eongesll , and although this is far from ‘being ideal. it has helped the situation considerably. Now that the necessity of build- ing more rooms has arisen. the problem is where they will he built. This is a serious problem in a serious situation. It is hoped that the citizens will be interest- ed to come to the school and see the changes and necessities for themselves. Their interest will serve as an incentive to the trus- tees to continue their work to give to the children of the com- munity the facilities whicp are rcquired in order to cary on their work. Viewing the great progress made in other schools through adding other activities, the members of the Board are hoping that some day soon there may be added domestic science, art. sewing. weaving. sculpturing. carpentry and mechanics. For many students not interested in Academic work this might be the solution or keeping them in school longer than in the past, since many students stovp school at Grade V111. ‘ It is also noteworthy that boys lead the enrolment for the first law years. but that in the higher grades the girls predominate. in- dicating that the ones who prim- srlly require a sound education are stopping before they get it. It is hoped. then. that the citizens of this community will take an active interest in their school and their children's education. not only during Education Week. but every week in the year. SOUR]!
