Stewart and vicinity on May 10th in the Legion Hall Mr. D. J. MacDonald was appointed chair- lnan and Mr. J. A. MacDonald as secretary, the following resolution was tmanimously adopted: Resolved that the potato grow- ers of Mt. Stewart and surround- -ing districts Join in a movement with other districts on Prince Ed- ward Island in petitioning the federal goverment to pay a bonus on the Island potato crop of 1934 and that this bonus be 810.00 an acre up t0 six acres. In consider- ation of the fact th‘at the federal’ government has from time to time come to the assistance of the farmers in oher provinces and that no such assistance has ever been given to the Prince Edward Island potato growers notwithstanding the fact that they have for several years lost considerable money in the past and present crisis. Signed on behalf of the farmers of these districts, Kenneth Jay. D. l". Egan, D. J. MacDonald, J. A. MacDonald. Potato Bonus At a meeting of farmers of Lorne Valley and vicinity held in Lorne Valley Ball on May 20 to consider the potato bonus move- ment the following resolution was passed: In consideration of the fact that potato growing is naturally adapt- ed to the soil and the geographical location of Prince Edward Island and many farmers have equipped themselves at considerable expense to engage in the industry. and the fact that potatoes are the chief cash crop and all farmers have sustained a heavy loss on the i934 crop and in the majority of oases find themselves heavily in debt. And in view of the fact that the federal government has granted large sums of money for thrrellef paying a bonus on wheat and all parts of Canada rnuet contribute their proportionate share of such money used for relief purposes, therefore be it resolved that this meeting of farmers of Lorne Vai- lsy and vicinity endorse the move- ment to petition the federal gov- ernment for a bonus oi $10 per aore on the 193i crop to a max- imum of six acres per farmer.
