come. As the guests were leaving,

son for Anne's absence.

this gossip. It might mean nothing

Richard was to be lost to her

her apartment. She sat before the
fire, sipping milk and staring at the
dying flames.
“I must think this through," she
told herself. “I cannot go on, being
weakened and msddened by jealousy

from her self-examination was the
deep conviction that never again
