gress. For many years Canada was
without a national illustrafted weekly,
and when the Canadian Courier was
started there were not many who be-
lieved that the country was big en-
ough to support such an expensive
puhlication. It wus recognized, how-
ever, that. John A. Cooper, who had
‘been editor of the .Canadian Magazine
for more than ten years, was not
likely to embark on such an ciit-cr<
prisc without due consideration. That
he has been ahle to duplicate his suc»
cess and to produce a periodical
which finds a ready sale from coast
to coast is a matter for congratula-
tion. National periodicals are an im-
portant feature in the growth of na-
tional literature and thc develovmillt
of national unity, and it is pleasant
to know that Canada now possesses
several of these. We heartily wish
