In February a mpnlignmeut M71 of these weapons left St. Petersburg for the Far East; it was stated that these guns and tha seventeen car loads of ammunition which went with them would complete the re-armament of the Russian artillery. Should this state~ ment be correct, it would be a fact of Igrsat importance. The slow-Bring held gun, such as those with which the Canadian artillery is arm- ed, can be dred about twice a minute. The recoil asuds the gun, carriage and all, plunging.back: The gunners must push it back toits firing station, reload, and than aim again. The new guns, by vari- ous devices, prevent this recoil. The gun stays lu place, and even the aim is _ only slightly deranged. It becomes a matter of loading quickly. April 20, 1904 In confirmation of our recent conver- sation, we wish to advise you briefly of the Club service wi ich we propose to operate in Charlottetown. . We can, of course, give service on this basis to any number of members, but would prefer to have you secure one hun- dred (100) before starting, if possible. Each member of tho club will have one, two or Lhres books (according to terms of subscription), and a surplus stock of one extra book for Icvcry four members would be left with Haszar-‘i Bt Moore, who will act as our agents, so that if one hundred members are secured the surplus stock would be 25. We feel that this would give a very satisfactory ser- vice, as all of the 125 books would practically be new titles, and although the surplus stock would not be great, the members ought to be able to get satisfaction, as the 25 would constant- ly be circulating, and no member would see the same book twice. The terms, cf course, will be tive, eight or ten dollars per ` annum for 1, 2 or 3 boiks service. The entire stock of books would baohanged once each month, and ship- ments would be made by express from our St John Office on the 28nd day of each month. Members could reasonably ex- pcfet tc have their new books two days later, and sufficient copies of popular titles will always be sont, so that each member will have opportunity to road the very books they want each month. This service has already been outlined to I-Iaszard 8: Moore, and they arr- now quite willing to accept thc agency on this basis. We trust that you will all feel that you will get good value for the money invest- e I. We are anxious to start the service as soon as possible, and would ask you to lay the matter before those who have signified their intention ofjolning, at the earliest possible moment. We are sending today to Haszsrd 8: Moore, rrcsipt books, so that they will he able to enroll members at once. As soon as a remittance ls received frrm them for the Club nubscrirtions, we will glvein- st-ructions to St. John, and books will he shipped immediately. We en- lose, for your guidance, sample Club system order osrd. and will ask you toread very cara- fullv the simple rules contained thereon. Agents will have nothing whatever to do with orders from thc members, as these are to be sent direct to St. John once each month.
