Charlottetown, was shot with a .22 through the thigh. Dr. Maclntyre was called to the scene. and after Mr. Rodd was treated. he was driven to his home in Charlottetown. Many dance fans from tzigue and vicinity attended the dance in the Georgetown Hall Monday night sponsored by the Community Welfare League. It is understood that the proceeds were exceptionally good. The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cona- dian Legion. Montague, was held ln the Legion Hall, Thursday. Oct. 16th. with the president, Mrs. Douglas Coffin, presiding. Ill the absence of the treasurer. Mrs. J. M. Clair. the financial report was given by the secretary Mrs. Archie liilchey. Plans were made for serv- ing dinner to veterans and their families on Nov. ilth, in the Leg- i ion Hall. Committees were appoint- cd, and a specla1 meeting was arranged for Nov. 6th to complete details. A local gravel truck driver struck the jack pot while driving his truck from the gravel pit to Georgetown. Keeping a. wary eye on the lookout for partridge in the vicinity. he was fortunate eii- cugh to spot a large covey in a fieldea short distance away. Sneak- liig up to the fence. he fired two shots which killed his full quota of eight partridge for the day. This serves as evidence that the Huns are plentiful this year, if one is lucky enough to. find them. Farmers in this district report an exceptionally good crop of po- r.atoes_ and, provided that the weather continues to hold as it has been during the past weék, digging will be completed in a relatively short time. The potatoes are of good size for classified grading, and there is no presence of blight or rot. Box cars have already been allocated for the fall ship- ping, with schooners acting as a subsidiary means of transporting the produce. At present cargo are already being sent to many dif- ferent markets along the Atlantic seaboard. The Bergman Construction Co.. Montague. has acquired a new pil- prop peelcr this month. Although it is only in the experimental stages, the company hopes that this new machine will speed up production considerably. The ma- chine is compact, operated by an attached air-cooled gasoline en- gine. This drives a shaft to which is attached a drum on which iron chains are connected. As the drum revolves, the chains fly out owing to centrifugal force striking the bark of the pit-props. The ma- chine has already been in oper- stlon experimentally, but as yet lo definite decision has been made on its efficiency. The company has expectations, however, that its ad- dition will increase considerably the out-put of pit-props. A girls hockey meeting was held in the offices of R. K. Clements with many girls interested in a girls hockey team present. Plans were formulated for organizing a team for the coming season, and to enter into competition with other teams on the Island. The girls ex- pect to put one. pantry sale so as to raise some funds for their own needs. It is expected that the Com- munity Welfare League which operates the communit rink will give suitable consideration to their request for an hour's practice dur- ing each week of the. hockey sea- II, J.
