' ‘ ‘ THE UPEI SUN, Thursday, October 23, 1980, page 5 / 4L :5 WATCH DOG room So we feel that you should try and get a better variety of things in the canteen (i.e. sandwiches, subs, etc.). Look into the possibility John, after all you have to invest money to make money, . Neil, we know you've been working hard on the Idea of getting CIMN pumped into the lounge. Now if you succeeded, there's just one thing you forgot to do, TURN UP THE VOLUME. Neil still hasn't solved this problem.Philip, so he says, is totally behind the idea so go ask his advice. We don't like harping on the—idea but how else are we going to reach the day- Students. They pay their Student Union fees too so WhY shouldn't they get the advantage of listening to our Voice of the Campus, CIMN. Keep trying Neil and by the way it's nice to see that youire attending some 0f the activities on campus. our Compliments to everyone involved in Fall Fest, even the Four Saints. Love and licks, the Watchdog. union with what to do with their budget. Phillip, maybe if you have too much money and don't know how to spend it, this suggestion can help you: on special events or times when there is only one security person on the .midnight shift as was the case on Friday night, you could take some of your free flowing cash and pay for a second security officer If one of our officers on duty alone happens to run into trouble and is not able to contact our security personnel in residence or to phone city cops for help, we may even be shorter of security. Think about it Phillip you as our student union president, are supposed to have the student's interest of UPEI (not Dal) at heart. ' As was mentioned in an earlier edition of this newspaper - A fool and someone else's money are soon parted! Jim Griffith you as well, our director of Students Services over residences, should be concerned. Both Phillip and Jim have acted as incompetents in the goings on this past weekend and we the students, deserve some explanation ello again from the old doghouse. King and the aints have been keeping a low profile with regards 0 their Student Union business but we have come up ith a few things this week that might interest you. hilip Brown, otherwise known as King, has been too usy for the last two Council Meetings to send gendas to the other Council Members. tlnstead he ends them Memos saying that an Agenda will be ready t the Meeting. For someone who is trying to run he Student Union like the Parliament of Canada, he s not doing so well. In order for Council Members 0 be well briefed on a sub'ect they must do some rior research into that su Ject and get other eoples views, after all they_are representing the .tudents at UPEI. Start sending your councillors .ome idea of what you will be talking about King so hat they won't be totally ignorant about the subjects Ou intend to discuss. Just as a friendly reminder, '.D. in the Constitution it states that two Council eetings per month must be held. One Meeting was eld on/October 19th so you must also hold one on he 26th. Two meetings in two weeks is a little too lose. Can't you try to hold one meeting sometime t the first of the month and another close to the nd? By the way Philip have you ever thought of dvertising the SU Meetings in the SUN? if they are oen to anyone who wants to go then everyone should ow about them. Remember your open door policy in our election campaign, well use it!!! - compliment you on your article about your trip to alifax. it was nice to know that you want the tudents here at the University to know what you're olng. responsible for putting these maniacs in. Yes, maniacs. They were the most disrespectful group of people to hit the residences. People wOrking in the building that week- end certainly earned their money trying to protect the residences. The Dal delegation somehow felt that Residence rules were not intended for them. Telling the enforcers where to go, barring open exit doors. and being generally nousy was the only other thing these students seemed to know. Also the question arises as to where the money for free beer for the Dal team came from. Before going to the event at the barn on Friday night there was a party held for them in Marian and free beer was thrown in. Phillip arranged for 80 advance tickets for these students. What if the barn had been sold out? Why should these S.0.B. be given priority over our own students? This did _not happen to be the case but it could well have been. The campus could use more protection. Any student owning a car must really feel at ease ohn, “T;W.” MacAleer, our beloved treasurer is not ly tight but he is undecisive as well. When some- e asks you a question vou should either have an swer ready or find one. We heard that when the =ll Fest Chair-person asked you whether or not she ould get novelties (T-Shirts, etc.) you told her - do whatever she wanted. What would have happened she had ordered lOOO Fall Fest T-Shirts? ' has been called to our attention that the reasurer has takefi a special interest in the games-- ontinued from’page ll I .I w . Dal deanuenh This pasL weekend ilanchard, Bernadine, and arion Halls had the great ondr of haying strangers alk the hallways of their esidence. ' Who were these people nd why were they staying n our residences? They ere the Unchaperoned alhousie Flag-football eam. How did-they manage 0 land in residence? All he thanks goes to Phillip rown for arranging it nd James Griffith for ‘lowing such aXthing to 3PP6n1' 'F _ r. 7 1 X , Were the residence students asked for their opinion? No, but why should they? Because wg_are the, students who hatho pay caution fees to-cover the damages in the residences. What about the damages that happened this weekend in the section this team were staying in’- like the «broken ceiling and the marks on the door of one of the apartments? Should we the students in Blanchard Hall have'to pay for this? Maybe Phillip Brown or Jim Griffith should pay the damages since they are knowing the parking lot is checked three or four times on a twenty-four hour shift. 0n busy nights 'in residence the appearance of a uniformed officer certainly makes a difference Another questiOn we would like to ask is who paid for these advance tick€.s as well as their lodr ngs? From talking witn certain officials and overhearing comments made by people in Blanchard they were supposed to have paid for their lodgins but never didr There seems to be a problem in the student for their actions. it looks as if both of them have forgotten their positions and the people under them. Maybe these two fools and their jobs should very 500n be parted. What about it President Meincke and student body? There must be more capable people able to fill these positions. In trying to be big shots off campus they are ripping their own students off. Signed: The Concerned, Angry, and Ripped-Off Students of UPEI.
