And yet, when you think of it, what could you expect? Three score years of wear and tear are enough to make the digestion weak. Yet the body must be fed. In Scott’s Emulsion, the work is all done; that is, the oil in it is digested, all ready to be taken into the blood. The body rests, while the oil feeds and nour- ishes, and the hypophos- phites makes the nerves steady and strong. go. and $1.00, all druggists, aCOTT & BOWNE, Chemists, Toronta. “CRESCENT” | STEEL AGATE WARE ts longer than other makes is ' suse |tis made from the original |; process. Epitome of Mr Asquith’s Speech. Right Hon. H. H. Asquith, addres- sing the Tyneside Liberal Association at Newcastle, said: Nothing is more unjust than to seek to undermine the confidence of the country and the army in a gallant general on the strength ofa single error of judgment , or asingle reverse. Noris it a time when it becomes responsible persons | to go about whistling for alliance or | dazing the world with exhibitions of freaks of new diplomacy. The situa- | tion confronting us, after reading to- day’s painful news, is so serious that. it is hardly possible to speak of any other topic. We cannot afford to spend time in unavailing regrets. Stesner and more urgent duties are laid upon us. We must not exagger- ate the reverse and disasters of to-day | They may become victories of to-mor- | row. At the same time let us not under-estimate the gravity of the task | before us. The war has developed pro- | portions which may make it the turning point in the fortunes of the Empire. It has become wider and deeper than the question of maintain- | ing our position in South Africa. Itis | our title to be known as a world power | that is now upon trial, and if we fail| here, the Empire ceases. “Whether the magnitude of the task | we have uudertaken ought not to have been seen sooner is a question which | will have to be answered hereafter, but | now it is clear that our force is !nadc-~ | It is the universal opinion of | all parties that whatever needed to give the army irresistable superiority, however great the sacri-_| fices involved, ihe country will readily | sanction.
