JUNE 22. 1951 PAGE THIRTEEN A Feature for Every Friday Among The Farmers Federation 0i Agriculture liewe . Cropping Progress in title age operations move at a rapid rate. Due to unfavourable weather many iarmera are still sowing grain while others are har- vesting grass and clover (or en- silage. In past years a break usually oc- curred between cropping and hey- tng which wla used tor repair jobs, painting and whitewashlng. Farmers interested in trench siios and grass ensilage who ar- range to visit Falconwood Farm this week twill have an..opportun- ity of seeing operations carried on without the use at expensive equipment. The possibilities of saving large additional quantities or protein are very great but caution should be exersised by the average iarmer in making heavy commitments for expensive grass machinery. Field Crop specialist For some years the necessity and value of a competent field crop specialist has been apparent to many of our farmers. The Depart- ment of Agriculture has this spring been able to secure such an expert. whose services are now available in rcgaril to problems of production, weed and disease con- trol affecting our field crops. Weed Control Farmers who have the problem ni mustard and wild radish in their grain iields will be thinking of spraying to control these troublesome invaders. Results from the use or recommended chemicals has been good and it is not too soon to make plans for a weed control campaign. Farm Forum Conference Nine provinces were lepresenied at last week's National Conference in Amherst where delegates from the,.!orum. Canadian Federation nl iwmgriculture, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. and the Canadian Association for Adult Education met to discuss the year's work and make plans to en- large and promote a program which is recognized as making a tremendous improvement in rural education, social progress. and the ' ”-n solution of community prob- lems. .lltarlo was represented in iorce by their provincial Forum Committee nnd the enthusiasm of those people for the accomplish- ments and possibilities of Farm Forum was a revelation. As one mrum member put it. "l'-'arm Forum has broadened us out. ex- tended our horizons. taught us tolercnci-. and developed the abil- ity to solve problems by group act- ion."
