After this time she separated from her husband on the greund of his committing adultery, which was abundantly proved. Owing to the difficulty and expense of obtaining a divorce in Canada, which is said to cost $1,500, on acceunt of the unwillingness of certain Reman Catholic members of the Senate to grant a diverce on any consideratien, she applied to one of the courts of the United States and obtaimed a diverce and after- wards married Mr. Philips. ‘The question was coneeded that she had a right toa divorce, but that the divorce obtained in a foreign country is not acknowledged by having beatitiful scenery, bathing, sea and river fishing, etc., etic.
