Gardiner, an old lady of 87 years and still in possession of all her mental facalties, The story is now published that the case of leprosy in the London meat market, reference to which by the Prince of Wales created sorewhat of a sensation, is nothing but a common and non-infectivus skin disease. Newspaper men, who sometimes get taken in themselves, will sympathize with the Prince, as he writes his letter explaining that he was more earnest than exact when he made so bad a break. Rev. ‘. W. Colpitts’ parishioners in Nee- pawa presented him a few days ago with a splendid gold watch worth $90, and an ad- dress; and he and his family were serenaded by the Neepawa brass band. Commenting upon the occurrence, the Neepawa Regiser says :—‘‘During his three years’ stay in Nee- pawa the Rev. gentleman has become very popular, not only with the members of his own church, but with the entire community. Sheappeared resigned to her fate, and asked permission to go into her room to put on a_ bonnet. The Sergeant, whose suspicions were dis- armed by the easy manner of his prisoner, granted the request, remaining outside while the bonnet was being put on. After waiting a reasonable time, and his prisoner not appearing, he opened the door and looked in. ‘The room was empty, and his prisoner not in sight. An open window over a porch in the rear of the building showed the means by which she had made _ her exit.
