General Assembly Addressed By Miss M. Webster TORONTO-(OEU-"Most of the worlds youth wants Christianity, not Communism, Fascism or any other isms," Rev. A. Ian Burnett of Ottawa last night. told tne 74th General Assembly of tlie Presbyterian Church in Canada. Assembly sittings are scheduled today to deal with recommendat- ions by the Committee for evan- gelism and social action. Two of these urge church study of intern- perance in Canada. more stringent censorship of motion pictures and increased production of religious films. Mr. Burnett said it is the re- sponsibility of the whole church to train young people so that tiie “future of the world and of the church" may be left in their hands. A shortage of ministers hampers Protestant churches in Canada to- day, he said. He said this occurred because university-trained people are paid better in other oc- cupations and because the church doesn't provide "economic security for ministers." l Miss M. Webster of Charlotte- town, P. E. I., national secretary of girls‘ work. said the church ‘is sponsoring youth organizations a- cross the Dominion. "Often the church is criticized for doing nothing for youth,” she said. "That is grossly untrue..." Earlier, Rev. A. C. Stewart of Midland. Ont. said the church's administration board does not favor sending an official to Great Britain to encourage immigration to Canada because, said Dr. Stew- art. the immigration project might "involve a very great outlay."
