On March 28th, the day ranged from snow fog to rain and the snow levels dropped rapidly. .By March 29th, the fields were centre bare and the Canada Geese could be seen feeding right to the edge of these banks in their favourite spring grain fields. The start of fishing season seen many first day fishing sites still frozen over. Flocks of Red-breasted Mergansers were common in the " shifting ice near tidal raceway areas-at causeways in early April. On April 22, the ice between Beach Grove and New Dominion and between Bunbury and Parkdale finally broke up and moved out past the bridge. On April 25th, Covehead Harbour channel was open but the back coves were still ice covered.. Tracadie Bay was also heavily laden with ice over much of the bay. Hardwood south facing slopes are now (April 29) mostly clear but snow still abounds (10 cm. to 60 cm.) beneath most conifer stands even on south slopes. Hopefully, the weather will soon improve to the point where the spring peepers will again lend their voices to herald in the spring.
