THE Christmas entertainment of the
West River Elliot Hell Sunday school
which was held in the church at WesiRiver
onTuesda/y proved a grentsuccess. Though
the evening was stormy there was a. very
large* attendance. A. McNeili superin-
tendent uresided. ‘ The recitntions and
singing by the choir children were ex-
cellent and graphophone selections by
Chas.Newson added to the entertainment
The two trees were beautifully. decorated
and loaded with gifts. In due time Santa
Claus appeared when each child _received
ebox of candy. o .souvenir button inscribed
with a scripture texian 1 on orange. The g
collection amounted to nearly ilfteen dol-
lars.

gance, N. B. The venerable preacher
who is still halo and hearty at ninety
years of age, has now been preaching for
seventy years. Barn in England in 1813
he came to Charlottetown four years
later, sailing from Hull, and being ten
-weeks and three days on the ocean bstora
reaching this port. -_ Hera _ho married a.
Miss Bovyer of Cove Head and entered
upon his' life work. Ir_i,18-1 he removed
to Anacance, N. B. where he_ha.s Since-.
resided, and where Mrs. Smith died some
three .years ag J. R:v. M :. S nith ,has
spent. the pastiew months on the Island
visiting old friends and preaching as
occasion oiered. Beginning in November
lost he preached once in New Annan,
once in North Carleton, once in Victoria,
twice in Hampton and once in Alexandria.

health is still exgelleut and the wintor’s
cold has apparently no terrors for this '
