Mr. Ralph Eldershaw. a fisher- man here. who goes to sea alone will long remember his experience of last week while out attending his lines. A big blow struck up and all the boats made for the harbour but in the splashing seas Elder- shaws engine broke down and there he was stranded and not missed by the other fishermen until the next morning. He spent a terrible day and night in the storm swept aeaa bailing his boat with a bucket to keep afloat. when he was finally rescued he was chilled to the bone. and his face was breaking into salt wa- ter sores. Interest in the Montague meet- ings increased with the news that the Evangelist's wife, Constance Templeton, arrived Tuesday night from calif., where she had been visiting her mother. to participate in the series. Mrs. Templeton is as noted singer and studied voice at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios in Hollywood. California, before meeting her husband. She sang in the Pasadena Rose Bowl before 80,000 people some years ago and had the privilege of singing in the home of Bing Crosby, by his re- quest, at a social gathering. Mrs. Templeton is Mexican by extract- ion. and was born in Pasadena, California. Abgent at time of photo - Louis Lannigan, Montague School closing Exercises On Thursday night the closing exercises of the Montague High School were held in Yeo's Theatre with a very large number of pa- renu attending despite the warm evening. Mr. Joseph Noonan, Principal, was chairman for the evening. Fol- lowing Mr. Noonan's opening re- marks each grade presented a short entertaining program, after which the prizes for the y-.-ar's work were presented to the pupils. Each successive presentation was greatly enjoyed by the audience who applauded after each grade had completed its performance. Sev- eral solos, ducts and group num- bers were rendered throughout the evening by the pupils, all of which were appreciated by the audience. The final part of the program was the presentation of diplomas to the Grade XI graduating class. Dr. A.D. MacKenzie presented the diplomas and gave the graduation address, congratulating the stu- dents on the success of the year's work which had entailed many hours of concentrated study. He pointed out how this preparation would prepare them to take-their place as future citizens, and aid them in arriving at solution of the many problems which they would meet in the world today. He urged them to continue on with their education, for through knowledge and wisdom they would derive a much greater appreciation of life and its meaning. The valedictory was presented by Miss Edith MacDonald, in which she expressed the regrets of the class at leaving the Montague High School, and the community itself. but that the associations made during the past years would be cherished in future years. In his remarks Mr. Noonan out- lined the activities of the school year. concluding with his appreci- ation cf the support of the teach- ing staff; the School Board; the supervisor. Mr. H. J. Hynes; the Public Health Nurse. Miss Lois Brady; Dr. Inman and Dr. Macin- tyre for their prompt attention to calls; the janitor, Mr. Peter Clary; the parents and pupils. He also thanked Mr. B.H. Yeo for his kind- ness in donating the hall for the evening. On Friday all the pupils of the school were taken on a picnic to Bruglenell point under the charge of Joseph Noonan, Cari Boehner, Cecil Beck, Miss Marion Furness and Miss Anne MacEachern. The trucks were provided by Mr. Ar- thur Fraser, Bergmann's, and the Montague Furnishing Company. The children enjoyed games, ath- letics and swimming, returning in the evening after a pleasant day.
