McCallum, about ten miles from the city, on the Brackley Point Road, were de- stroye 1 by fire. In the outbuildings were some twenty-two head of cattle, an Ail Right mare with Hernando colt, this season's crop and much of last season’s, agricultural im plements, etc., allof which were destroyed, The dwelling house was saved with much difficnity. ‘The fire started between ten and eleven o'clock, while the family were all | slumbering. The roaring of the cattle as they were being cremated awoke the sleepers, but when they got outside it was too late to save any of the stock or the buildings. The mare broke loose and rushed out of the burning stable, but before she could be captured be- came alarmed and rushing back into the blaz- ing building was soon burnt to death. There is nothing detinite known 4s to the origin of the fire. Mr. McCallum’s loss is estimated at about $3000. The buildings were insured for $600. I use about two barrels of this piaster per winter, which costs me $1.60 per barrel, and I would not be without itif it cost me $5. Kvery night my man takes two or three quarts of it, and as he passes along scatters it in the gutters behind the cattle and the horses in the stables. So completely does it absorb everything, that if you zo inte the stables inthe morning, you would earcely know that there were any animals | there, amy more than you would ina parlor, he principle of this absorptive power of land plaster is, thet requires about 5,000 times i's bulk of water to dissolv. it. W. D. Hoard, at Ontario Dairymen’s Convention. The above mentioned Plaster (Ground Land Plaster) should be used in every Stable, es- pecially in large ones where many animals are kept together. It purifies the air, thus promoting the health of the animals, while it by retaining the ammonia, the most valuable element init. The heaps of manure in the field and farmyard often become white or fire-fanged by overheating; a sprinkling of Plaster over the heap will prevent this.
