In the morning the meeting opened with the appointment of committees. press. resolutions. and nominations. The president of the local association. Mr. John Hughes gave an excellent opening address welcoming the teachers to the convention. and stressing the fact that though the teaching profes- sion was not well paid. itvwas none the less. a very important one. He reviewed the activities of the past year, and cited two important re- sults of the teachers federation activities. and increase in teachers salaries, and an improvement in the pension plan. Miss Helen Yoe of the staff of Prince of Wales College gave a very instructive session on high school English. and the common errors found in students English in writing examinations. A discussion period followed on the subject "Latin in the Schools" and "Grade 8 Examinations. was emphasized that the grade ll exminatioris were to be used as a guide in grading pupils. and not as.lhe final and only examinations to be considered.
