and served in the most tasteful manner.
The principals were the recipients of
many valuable and useful presents.
The evening hours were whiled away
in social conversation and games of
various kinds. As the midnight hour
peeled forth the bappv company dis-
serenaders clad in costumes of every
description under the careful superin-
tendence of their captain, ‘-Almighty
Voice." ‘ After a few lengthy selections
lot vocal and instrumental music the en-

the house and saluting the newly wed-
ded pair, retired very quietly. '

THE wreck of the steainship Mohegan
causes a los°s to the marine underwriters
of £192,000. The steamer was valued
tit £1-10,000 and insured for £l12.000,
and is now a total wreck. The cargo
was insured for £80000.
THE shipments of potatoes and oits
from this port are small. For the for-
mer 25 cents a bushel is paid and for
the latter :$0 cents. Considerable pork
is being shipped the price paid being
tive cents. Live hogs sell for four cents
per pound. The price _of butter is
somewhat firmer though in tubs it can
still be bought for 14 cts.' Eggs are 13 lp
cts.
Tni-: steamer Lake Winnipeg arrived '
in port last night en route from Mon-
treal to Liverpool. She will sail to-
morrow morning. Her freight” will
include the following: 1,000' sheep.;
100 head cattle, 20 horses, 5,000 boxes
cheese, 1,500 pack-ages butler, 300
bhls apples. 50 boxes apples, 800 cases
lobsters and berries.
Ar a meeting of the Evangelical Al-
liance, yesterday morning it was re-
solved on motion of Rev. G. O. Gates.
seconded by Rev. G. W. Fisher, that the
Dominion government he called upon to
enforce prohibition without any refer-
ence to the provinces. Alter adjourn-
ment of the alliance the ministers in-
formally discussed the formation of a
law and order league, to aid in preserv-
ing the sanctity of the Sabrath. The
matter vi ill be more fully dealt with at

has been‘carefully selected and packed
and includes speci nens of the leading
varieties. The apples were ‘inspected
on the wharf yesterday by Governor
Howlan, Premier Farquharson, Mayor
Warburton, Senator McDonald and a
number of the other most prominent
men ofthe city, many of whom have
taken a deep interest in horticulture in
this province. They were greatly
pleased with the appearance of the
fruit, the excellence of which. it is be-
lieved, will inaugurate a lucrative ex- -
port trade from the province to England.

battle appeared in the Herald and was
cabled by the young gentleman who
was married at 12 o’clock to-day.- Mr.
and Mrs Macready will live at 101st
street and Central Park, after a short
wedding trip.
