In the death of Mr. James Howl- ard. Arthur which occurred at his home on Sunday afternoon, Sum- rnerside has lost one oi its most loyal and respected citdzcris. With the exception of Mir. J. R. Kenny. whose barber shop is across the street from the late Mr. Arthur's tinsmith shop. Mr~ Arthur was the oldest active business men in Surn- merside. Ho started ‘ ' more than forty-five years lso, when he bought out the tinsmith business of Milton Welsh when that gentle- man was given a. position in the Marine Department. His first stand was in the little store at the corner on Water Street next to the roil- way station, but he only remained there o short time when he re- moved to premises he occupied up in the time of his fatal illness. In this store for forty-five years Mr. Arthur curried on one of the best tlnsmith businesses in the province. He was also an excellent sheetmetol worker and had s large trade in this brunch oi his work. Although a. keen business man he had a. genial disposition and was well liked by his business associ- ates and during his long buslnus life he had always hsd the most cordial relations with them. Mr. Arthur was born ct Msyfield. P. E. I., April 23, 1865, and was the son oi the lute Charles Arthur and Mary Jane Irving Arthur. He lived most all his life in Sum- merside and wus keenly interested in the development of the town. Of s. quiet but happy disposition he had many friends who will learn with regret oi his passing. Mr. Arthur was taken ill shortly before the New Year and was op- erated on in the Prince County Hospital on January 8rd. He re- turned ho" l from the hospital three weeks after and it was hoped that he would recover but compli- cations set in and in spite of the best nursing and medical skill his illness proved fatal and he passed to the Great Beyond. He leaves to cherish the memory of a kind and affectionate husband and fat-her the following family: His widow. formerly Eve.
