When nature her great master-piece designed, And framed her last, best work, the human mind, Her eye intent on all the mazy' plap, | She formed of various parts, the various man. — Borns Sir,~Aad how various are all Natute’s works, animate and inanimate, not even two igrairs of eand exactly alike, and everything like the sends, not two alike and everyone different, which shows us how wonderful and incomprehensible are the powers and skill of the world’s great architect. The march of Natuce is an onward and an ascending march, The stages are siow, but the tread is stately, and to him who has commanded and who overlooks it, » thousand years are as but a single day, and a single day is but a thousand years. But the human mind, individually and collectively, varies more, if 1 mey so express myself, on religious questions and _beliefs than on any other subject. Take, for instance, our many christean sects, and see the many count- less communities and tribes of pagan worship- pers, how they differ. There are millions of Mobaminedans who, of course, are not pagans They differ ia sects as we do. The Jews dif fer in sects also. Lord Macaulay held, and not without reason, that civilized maa of to- day is not very far in advance of the savage in seeing his way through the theological mist that has hung over us all ever since the in- fancy of the human race. Civilization and Christianity have certainly done a great deal to cheer us on the road, and tomake us a better and a happier people. But it is now nigh two thousand years since Christ came on earth to show us by His pre- cepts, His preaching and His example, by His life and His death, how to live and love one another; and elthough we are improving, it has been at a very slow pace. The most impres- sive sentence shat Christ uttered, when here, was that He was not of this world. There always has been an unaccountable anti- pathy in the human mind towards accepting Christ’s teachings as a rule to live by here. For anyone, following Christ closely, could not expect to win in a race for this world’s prize, however it might help us over the ferry to a better land. But the ferry appears far away, and our passage thence SAVING LIFE. A Wonderfal and Successfal Plan HUNDKEDS NOW BEING CARED FOR FREE OF CHARGE, Cures Reported Every Week A well known and exceedingly popular Canadian institution is now conducting a most remarkable work amongst the sick, suffering, and all those who have been pro- nounced as incurable by our regular phy- sicians, The work is done by sending free supplies of Paine's Uclery Compound to the worthy and deserving in our fand, who are not in s position to purchase the great remedy that dispels disease and gives new life. in the prosecution of this great aad fa reaching work & certain degree of caution must necessarily be exercised, in order t: prevent imposition and fraud. The Weils & Richardson Co., before supplying thei: world famed remedy to the deserving poor of Canada, demanded the fulfilment of but one condition, which reads as follows: ‘*Al) applicants must be recommended by some Clergyman, Mayor, Reeve, Justice of the Peace or Postmaster,” When such « recommendation is received the deserving are carefully looked afier free of charge. The Wells & Richardson Co, also have in their employ a first-class phys. cian, whose work is to preseribe and giv: free advice to those who muy require it.
