To-NIGHT, at 8 o‘clpck, in the Y. M. C.
A. parlor, the last meeting for the season
ofthe Natural History and Antiquarian
Society will be held. The Rev. Dr.
Morrison will lecture upon the Indians of
America. Everyone is invited to attend.
Admission free. It is hoped that the
public will show its appreciation of the
work of the Society in providigg so excel-
lent a. course of lectures upon antiquities
and sciemific subjects, by 8. large attend-
ance at the closing meeting.
THE Semi-annual examination of Hamil-
ton School took place on Friday the 4th
inst., in the presence of a number of rate-
payers of the school. The pupils were ex-
amined in the different subjects by Miss
Janie B. McDonald, teacher of Indian
River, and Miss Melissa Manderson, and
ted themselves, showed clearly the ability
of Mr. Montgomery Owen, the popular
teacher of the school. At the close of the
examination remarks were made by
Messrs. John H. lvoodsidc, Edmond
Philips and others, all of whom expressed
themselves as highly pleased with the
progressof the school.
THE regular weekly meeting of Victoria
Division, S. of T., will be held in Wright's
Hall,this evening at 8 o`clock. A com-
mittee is appointed to arrange to make
this a “social” evening; and they take
this opportunity to request all members,
es pecially the older members of the
Division to be present. The object is to
get acquainted with the large number oi
new members who were admitted during,
prep: red, and a very pleasant evening is
xpected. Visiting members of the Order
will be welcome.

THE steamer Cohan is out of the dryl
dock. She is loading 3,000 bbls. ot cement
for Sydney, at the Furness pier. The
Cohan will run on the coast this season
instead of the St. Lawrence route.- Hx.

ON Saturday a man presented himself at
the ticket oflice of the P. E. Island Rail-
way and asked for a secondfclass ticket to
Summerside. Upon being told that the
price was $1 he objected and said that he
only paid $1 before the road was shortened.
Argument failed toconvinze him and he
paid the dollar protesting. ~ n
A Springhill despatch says:-The classes
and 'purses for the races at Springhill,
011 Saturday June 30th and Monday,
July 2nd. have been decided on. A
purse of one thousand dollars
will be divided as follows:
On Saturday, June 30th-2:24 class,
trotting, purse $250; and 2:40 class,
trotting and pacing, purse $250.
On Monday, July 2nd, free-for-all
class, trotting, purse $250; and 2:25
class, trotting, purse $250. Divi-
sion of purses-50, 25, 15, and 10
per cent; entrance 5 per cent of purse,
with 5 per cent. additional hom win-
ners.
