The camp has been itched on Barrack Square, but the men will drilled on Victoria Park, where the commandant and staff are quar- tered. CONSTANTINOPLE, June 26. the Sultan in whieh it distinctly refuses to accept the situation which will result from signing the Egyptian convention and says if the ‘convention be ratified, France will take measures necessary to protect hér interests, which will be endangered by the disturbance of the equilibrium of the Mediterranean. On the other hand France offers a formal assurance thet | that she will protect and guarantee the Su!- tan against whatever consequences may re- sult if he will refuse to ratify the conven tion. By so doing the note says the Sultan will. strengthen the ties of friendship between France and Turkey and protect his country from encroachments and am- bition of England upon the receipt of this note the Council of Ministers was summon- ed and a note to the Powers drafted, com- plaining of the French interference in the international affairs of Turkey. The note will be submitted to the Sultan for his ap- proval. It is rumered that Russian troops ' ' The French Government sent a note to | | Turkey. Big Blaze in Chicago Cuicaco, June 26. Early this morning an employee of the Chicago Packing and Provision Company discovered a tire in the tankroom, and in a few moments the tank expleded scattering the burning lard over adjacent buildings, a dozen separate fires soon competing. The fire was out this evening, fourteen and one half hours after it started. The smoulder- ing embers continued to laden the air with the fumes of roast pork, and the five acre oven will remain on the premises red hot for two days. Loss a million and a quarter. Yachting.
