‘1‘ The Cadre, Sept. 9, 1995.,page 2 Well, it's September a- gain — that time of the year when everyone is in a mad rush to get back into the routine (or more likely is celebrat— ing/drowning their sorrows in a week—long party). Like most other people and organizations on campus,The Ca¢ke is going through the same phase. Con- Dear Editor, Last year we had a com— mittee on Aims and Objec—n tives, remember? All ideas, including ours, the students and faculty, were discussed. Many people spent long hours organizing a way to find meaning for this university. Since all this time has been spent, we are now closer to that answer, so let's reach some conclusions and take action. We have something now, but unless we reach some conclusions which will be a useful foundation for the future, then all will be pur- poseless. If we do not, we will forget what has been .accomplished and what we need — a spirit which will enable us 50 say why we are here. Respectfully, Chuck , Dear Editor ( can I call you " Eddie? " ) ~ I think I,am in love with you} I really dig frizzy -red hair and freckles. I think of you every night before I go to bed, and I askaod to bless and keep you. Eventually - we hope — those things will be done and a routine of sorts establish— ed but right now more than ever again the paper needs help — your help. If you are Dear E tor, I just thought I'd take the time to drop you a few lines ( twenty — five, to be exact ) and tell you what a MARVELOUS paper I think the Cadre is. It is a wonderful source of all kinds of new— sy tidbits. The last Cadre I picked up last April has been read and re — read a— bout a million times! I will be ever So glad when you‘ start printing again in September because I really need something new to use when conversing with no— tables, intellectuals, and notable intellectuals. I think people may be start— ing to find my conver— sation a wee bit boring be- cause I have been talking a— bout the same things since April! An Admirer To the Editor: This note is extended in an attempt to encourage the future publication of this paper. Enclosed please find my generous donation. No other ass-wipe has the value of The Cadre . Keep up the good work. YourS, Harry Behind interested in layout, proof- reading, typing, editing, res“ viewing, writing articles or any of the sundry other thi—p ngs that go into putting a newspaper together, then drop down to see us Monday to Fri- day 2-5PM or Sunday 1PM to 1AM in the basement of Memore ial or ask any member of the staff. Experience is not re— quired, knowledge of a news- paper not neceSsary but we do require enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. ’ Last year, I think it is conceded was one of the best for_Ihe Cadre, yet in Any waysrit was still not a g00d paper. Our perennial problem — shortage of staff e is still with us. Mind you, apathy is not the only rea— son for this - it is far too easy for a staff of three to become a clique and thus "turn off" potential new mem- bers. We are trying to rect— ify this problem but we do ask you give us an incentive Dear Editor, For your information, I think the Cadre is a con— glomeration of assorted re- fuse. Well, maybe I should ‘ say the Cadre WAS a conglo— meration of assorted re— fuse. I mean, I really should give/you guys the benefit of the doubt. ‘ Really, though, I cer- tainly hope you people can clean up your act this year. Last year, every Tuesday, it was, " Let's go pick up a Cadre and see what kind of slanderous trash they've printed this week. " Why did you have to be constantly raking some poor schmuck over the coals? My mother always said, " if you can't say something good a— bout somebody, than don't say anything at all! " I mean, all the good people whose feelings were grevi— ously hurt by the Cadre would easily fill up the Crapaud Telephone Directory. Perhaps you all got off on being a bunch of creeps. In that case, you should ~have all been locked up in the loony bin because it is a bunch like you that makes this world stink sometimes. I am not normally a vehe- ment person, but I must ad— mit there were times last , *year when I felt like kill— ing the whole lot of you. But then, of course, my bet— ter nature got the best of me and I thought to myself, '"They are all sick. They need help.‘ Well, I guess I will fin— ish off this letter. But, in parting, I just want to remind you that there are many of us who will be out to get you if you don't shape up! MacGillicutty r to do so, ig-pther.words to . let where she can vent her come doWn and see us and en; large the clique. ‘ .I In the past The Cadre has consisted oanrticles stripped from other papers and a few pet gripes given a rare opportunity - to be thr. own out at the world as a whole while that world pays for the"priviledge? This yea we hope to strike a balance by getting into much more in vestigative reporting. Ofgal aspects of newspaper work, this takes the most manpowen yet it is also probably the -most rewarding. If there is a question that's been nag— ging you (like just who are all those’faceless people on the Board of Governors or wh do the roads break up every Spring no matter what age they are or...) then drop do to talk it over. It may just become a feature article.. Remember Monday through Friday 2—5PM and Sunday 1PM to 1AM in the basement of 'Memorial. Dear Editor: Hilda MacGillicutty is a kook,-and I should know!. I'm her mother. I really don't understand how that girl can make herself out to be such a goody - goody cru— sader. She didn't get it from me, and that's a fact. However, her father's side of the family is a bit strange, but I think the poor girl got a rather strong dose of whatever ails THAT tribe. With a name. like MacGillicutty, what can you expect? Hilda can be a nice kid on occasion, though. Why don't you ask her real nice if she would like to work on the Cadre. All the poor dear really needs is an out— hostilities.
