848 ROYAL GAZETTE . *— r ~17 * dietetic. FRIDAY, JULY 2, 1869. A NOTICE of Conviction, purporting to come from Wood Island Magistrates’ Court, but not authenticated by the name of any of the Magistrates, will be inserted as soon as the Queen’s Printer is satisfied that the con- viction is genuine. r .2: (CIRCULAR) DOWNING STREET, 24th May, 1869. Sm. . With reference to the Circular Despatch which was addressed to you by my Predecessor on the 8th of December last. intimating to you the extension of the Order of St. Michael and St. George to all Her Majesty’s Colonial Possessions, I transmit to you a copy of the revised Statutes of the Order. When that Order was confined. as it originally was, to the Ionian Islands and Malta. appointments were usually made by the Investiture of the Members either at Corfu or Malta under the special authority of the Sovereign ; and OflEicers of Arms attendant on the Order were appointed at both those Islands. The chief duty of these Ofiicers, as prescribed by the Statutes. was to attend the ceremonial of Investiture; and also to recover the Insignia, in the event of the death or the promotion of the Members, for the restoration of which they sign a Covenant on receiving such Insignia. Now. however, the dignity will. for the present at least, generally be conferred by means of Warrants from the Sovereign, dispensing with the ceremony of Investiture, and, until there shall have been found some further occasion than at present exists for the appoint- ment of Oiiicers of Arms in any of the Colonies, it will be desirable that you should entrust, either to your Pri~ vate Secretary or tO some other person Whom you may select, the duty of recovering the Insignia on the decease of any of the Membe'w resident within your Govern- ment, and of forwrding them to the Secretary and Registrar of the Order at this Office. I have the honor to be. Sir. Your most obedient humble Servant, _ GRANVILLE. The Oflicer Administering The Government of Prince Edward Island. GOVERNMENT HOUSE. June 30, 1869.
