This re- markable man is, so it is asserted, accustomed, fer the amusement of himself and his friends, to take his seat toward evening in a bamboo chair, and to become apparently unconscious. No sooner has his body lost all sensitiveness than there issues from his mouth a faint blue flame, which slowly takes form and assumes proportions of a weil developed mankind, who is. the materialized soul of the philosopher, talks freely with those present, and eats, drinks, writes, and,in fact, exereises all function of a civilized and perfectly constituted human being. He dares not however, so he is reported to de- clare, break coatact with the inanimate bedy of his possesor; and on one oc- easion, when he was forcibly removed and set upon a neighbouring table, the philosopher began to gasp and struggle as if in the awonies of death, whereupon the mankin was quiekly replaced on his master’s head. THE ANCIENT VESSEL ON MOUNT ARARAT. FINDING OF IN A GLACIER A Constantinople contemporary an- nouuces the discovery of Neah’s Ark. It appears that some Turkish Com- missioners appointed to investigate the question of »valanches on Mount Ara- rat suddenly came upon a gigantic structure of very dark wood protruding from a giacier. They made inquiries of the inhabitants (Q 1,725 in their re- r'), These had seen it for six years, co had been afraid to approach it be— cause a spirit of fierce aspect had been seen looking out of the upper window. Turkish Commis-vioners, however, the bold:men werenot detcrred by such trifles, and they determined to reach it. Situated as it was among the fastness of one of the glens of Mount Ararat, it was a work of enormous difficulty, and it was only after incredibie hardships that they succeeded. The ark, one will be glad to hear, was ir. a good state of preservation, although the angles of the bow or stern had beena good deal broken in its descent. They recognized it atonce. There was an Englishman among them who had presumably read his Bible, and hesaw that it was mad: of the aneient gopher wood of Scripture which, as every one knows, only grows on the plains of the Euphrates. Eftect- ing an entrence into the structure, which was painted brown, they found that the Admiralty requremenst for the conveyance of horses had been carried out, and the interior was divided into partititions fifteen feet high. Into three of these only could they get, the others been full of ice, and how far the ark extended into the glacier they could not -tell, If, however,on being un- covered, it turns out to be 300 cubits long, it will go hard with the dis- believers in the book of Genesis. ‘Need- less to say,” says the Pall Mail (fazette,“An American was soon on the spot, and negotiations have been entered into with the local Pacha for its transfer to the United States. fhe Great French Remedy, Dr. LeDuc’s Periodical Pills.
