While examining the location from the train lsstjsummer Hon.Jamss H.Oommns- kcy.0ommlasionnrof Public Works be- came convinced that a bridge could be built in comparatively shallow mud between two points about 125 yards further down the river than the present floating bridne. Two days ister he had the Government Engineer, H. C. Mollllian survey the ` location and the borings' that he made fully established the feasibility of the undertaking. Later while Hon. W. S. Fielding was here last winter the services of H. J. McKenzie were obtained and his borlngs taken through the ioe:wero iden- tical with those of Mr. McMillan who naturally felt pleased that his work d_one from a boat under dltilnuit conditions should corn spond with the more accurate borings through the ice. During the fail the commissioner had plans prepared by Mr. McKenzie ably as- sisted by Mr. McMillan and yesterday The Guardian had the privilege of seeing the result of their work on the proposed bridge. The bridge will be one of the longest and undoubtedly the best. traffic bridge in the Province. it will be 500 feat long between stakes, will be built on 32! pile benches, three piles to each bench and ‘is 400 feet between the obutments. The piles are to be oreosotedlfrom thelwawr up to five feel. nbove the surface of the mud. The lower part of the piles are to be fish spliced with any kinds of native wood. At the deepest place the borlnos indicate 33 feet of shell rock and below this the piles will be driven 2b feet into the rock. There will be a' cirsw twenty-four feet wide and in ten feet of water at high tide. This is to correspond with n draw that is shortly to he placed in the railway bridge further down the river. The top covering of the bridge will be ii inch spruce or hemlock with complete rail, curb, stnntions and hub guard. To drive the piles a pile driver, of not less than 15,000 lbs with 25 lest or more drop will be necessary . Inls understood that the Government will at once proceed to call for tenders and the work will be commenced lu a short time. When finished the bridge will probably be the most complete in the Island and add a substantial asset to the Province._ Time and Experience Have DIAMOND DYES are the purest, most brilliant and fastest of nil home rlyus.
