A Serious Trouble at Valleyfield: Quebec. VaLLerrieLD, Que., July 13.—The weavers in the Empire Mill ef the Monte treal Cotton Co. went on strike yesterday because of the employment cf am English- man. Last evening the operatives in the ether Jepartmenis met and condemned the strike. Thie morning these operatives went to work as usual and worked uatil! noon. When they endeavored to enter the mill at 1 o’clock the striking weavers attempted to prevent them by force. They failed in thie and then attempted io carry the}mill by storm. The operatives inside the mil! made aepirited resistance and eventually drove the attackers off. The mob stoned the windows of the mill facing the street and two or three people were injured, one woman quite seriously. Towight there is great excitement. 2400 operatives are effected by the strike.
