After having received his education in 'the schools of the Is- land province, he entered the business oflifs insurance in Montreal, in 1869. He became engaged in the productive brunch of the business almost immedi- ately, and met with marked success. ln18&i Mr. Burke was appointed gen- eralmanngerof the New York Life In- surance Company in Canada, which company he had represented for many years previously, and which had retired from active operation in Canada ln 1878. Besides being its general manager, he was one of the Canadian trustees of theNew YorkLlfe, and the handsome building on Place d'Ar|nes, which mark- ed the advent of palutial ofllua struc- tures in_t.his city, was the result of Mr. Burkc`s energies in that direction and added much to the development und suc- cess of that company's business in the Dominion. Also a Few Facts on the Same Subject. \Vehcnr much nowrluys about licnlth foods and hygienic living, ubout veg- eturianism,n.nri runny other fads along the sums line. Restaurants may be found in the larger cities where no meat, pustry or coffee is served and the food crank is in his glory, and arguments und the- ories galore advanced to prove that ment was never intended for human stomachs, und almost make us believe that our sturdy ancestors, who llvcd four- score years in robust bealth.on roast beef, pork und mutton must have been grossly ignorant of the laws of health. Our forefathers had other things to do than formulate theories ubout the food they ate. A warm welcome was extended to any kind, from bacon to ucorns. A hcnlthy appetite and common sense are excellent guides _to follow in mat ters ofdiet, unda mixed diet of grains fruits and ments is undoubtedly the best. As compared with grains and veg- etables, ment furnishes the most nutri- ment in a highly concentrated form and is digested and assimilated more quickly than vegetables or grains. Dr. Julius Remmson. on this subject, says: “Nervous persons, people run down in henltli und of low vitality should ent ment and plenty of it. lf the digestion is too feeble :rt first it may be easily corrected by the regular use of Stuarts's Dyspepsin 'Tablets nfter each meal. Two of these excellent tablets taken after dinner will digest several thousand grains of ment, eggs or other animal food in three hours and no matter how weak the stomach may be, no trouble will be experienced if n regular practise is mode of using, Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets, because they supply the pepsin and diastaso necessary to perfect digestion, and every form of lndigcstion will be over- come by their use. That large class of people who come under the head of nervous dyspeptics should ent plenty of meat and insure its proper digestion by the daily use of n. sa e, harmless digestive medicine like gtunrtfs Dyspepsin. Tablets, com- posed of the natural digestive prin- ciples. pcpsln, dinstusc, fruit acids and suits, which actually perform the work of digestion. Cheap cathartic medi- cines. masqueradlng under the name of dyspepsin cures, are useless for indi- gestlon, as they have absolutely no ef- fect upon thc actual digestion of food. Dyspcpsin in all its runny forms is simply nfailurc of thc stoniachlto di- gest food, and the sensible way to solve the riddle and cure the dyspep- siais to mnlreduily use nt. menl time of u preparation like Si.un.rt'i-l Dpspep- sin Tablets, which is endorsed by the nieriicnl profession and known to con~ tain active digestive principles. ._ ._ *pf ;& _,: into '~ 1- _ S ..._ .._ ._ _;¢,|,_._;m.ee»t-...-_.
