A very educative dieplhlf Ol lllfm products is that on the right baud at the Main entrance of the Exhibi- tion Bulidiug where the Experimental Station has a much finer exhibit than last year. The unfavorable season re- tarded the ripening of many of the things shown, but the wonderful growth and bloom of the flowers adds much to the decorative scheme which has' been admirably carried out by Mr. Clarkand his assistants. ' The attractive banners. flags and signs add to the first impression and invite everyone to make a closer in- spection. The individual product of 31 potato plants is shown on an in- clined shelf, each plant being chosen from among its fellows to reprbsent its own variety. The lots are divided with stems of broom corn, several varieties oi which did not mature this season. Taken collectively these lots are remarkable for the uniform- ity of the tubers; some having ns many as ten marketable potatoes from .a single stock. Grape _vines are hung above the shelf of potatoes and are heavily la- den with great clusters of grapes, which are well advanced. The paper -bug method will be adopted to ripen some of the fruit should frost occur before they are fully matured. ` Many varieties of turnips, cabbages und squash are represented by one specimen each along in front of the potatoes. To the right of the corner- post, which is decorated with fodder and sweet corn, ~sheaf grain and hemp is an attractive display of grain in bottles; these bottles are flanked by 33 -varieties of sweet peas from the superb collection which has dttrsctcd so much attention this season at the lilxperln1entslFarm. Interspersed n- mong these are some of the choice perpetual roses, large show dahlias and- asters, &c_ On the inside ol the tables are plates of tomatoes, plums, apllls and pears. Sheaves of many varieties of oats wheat and barley are arranged in groups on the back wall. There are also individual plants of many of the same varieties exposed in show cases. _A hug or Marquis wheat from the nchi which produced 30 bus. on one acre this hedeon ls shown alongside of a hug of Banner osts from a nam which produced over lid bus per acre. Salslty and soy-bein: are among the vegetables and roots which line the passage-way leading upstairs. DEOAY OF HANDWRITING LONDON, September 24-The de- cay. ol handwri ing in the subject of a plnint by a ` correspondent in The Times, who thinks that the art is be- ing neglected in modern schools.. The steelpen he says, was one factpr in altering the style and legi- bility of writing, and the fountain pen, 'ln' some of its varieties, has proved to be a` still more harmful ma china. Typewriting certainly secures legibility, but that is not writing.and it is doing much_ to discourage the practice of calligraphy. nor even encouraged in our great se- condary schools. Sclioolniasters ap- pear to accept any kind of bad writ- ing. The average boy or girl now takes little or no pains to form let- ters. In other Words they do not write at all. Few parents or teach- _' ers appear to take any notice of this writing, and the letters of the last century, which were generally neat and legible, at the- hands of both sexes, certainly put us tp shame to- dmv.
