FOX INDUSTRY -‘ _ED FOX TAX Sir,-I could not iittcnd the lrnx BI`00d0l`5 MGOUHI-T that was hold iii Charlottetown a short time ago and so I write to know what was done nl that meeting and also for some in- formation about the paying of the ‘fox tax. I have boon ranching Silvui' and Cross ‘foxes on my own account since 1913 and paid all the taxes dc manded from me except tho tnx fo: 1916 and I won-lil have paid that to/ only I was told -by pcoplc that ought to know that a great many conipnii ies and ranchers were behind in tlinii taxes und' that some of them never paid any tax at nil and that l ivas foolish for paying mine every year when other people could keep theirs in their pockets. Now last week I not a bill from the Government for my 1916 tax and a notice that if I |lidn’t pay it before the 27th of this month I would be sued for it. So l don't know what is best for me to do My Silver Foxes are taxed $5 a piecc and the few crosses I have 50 cents n piece. Its' more than I could sell them for but I don't think it is much out of the way for good foxes and so I don't object to paying the tax on that ac- count. But I object to paying any' more tax unless the big companies :md ranchers are made pay up their tax and' every rancher big or small be treated alike. All the small rancliers. I talked to about the tax are of some opinion as I sm so if the big' compan- ies an`d--ranchers are -madepay the -same as the small ones everybody will be satis/fled. I never had to be sued to pay my debt and I don't want to be brought to court now for my fox tax and this is why I want to know i" the Government intend to make ever; company andranchers pay their tax or only collect from them that arf- willing to pay and let the others keep their taxes in their pockets. I hc'i:~' that the foxmeii at their meeting pass ed a. resolution asking the Govern- ment to put a tax of $5- a plescon all foxes on the Island and wouitlllike to -know if that is true. l_will be mucl~ obliged for any information you can give me wboutthe tax and for your advice in the matter. You must excusi- this letter as it is tho first I ever wrou- for a newspaper -but I hope that some one that understands the fox liusint~:<.- and the tax will._take it up and ex plain it in the .newspapers for the beneiit of ranchers- like myself.
