Session was opened at 2.30 p. m., by the president. G. W. W. Cameron who stated that the llrst suhiect to come be- fore the meeting was the resolution re Stock Farm, which was laid over from the Cape Traverse meeting of the llth inst. The Ssc'y read the resolution as follows: Whereas the Provincial Farm has ceased to be ss useful as a st.ock-pro- duoing centre as it formerly was; And Whereas one ofthe things mostimportant to our farmers today ls the dairy lndustry; And Whereas an Experimental Station for the testing of varieties of grain and methods of cultivation would be of great benefltbo this Province; Therefore Resolved that we approve of theestahlish- ment of a Model Dairy Farm and Experimental Station in place of what is now known as the Government Stock Farm, and that the Local Department of Agriculture he asked to take such steps as shall be necessary for the proper equipment nt such Model Dairy Farm and Experiment Station. A.S. Wright began the discussion by slylng that we havirllftho paet"recelved‘ much bencilt from the Stock Farm, und he believed if there was n man to manage it the Farm would still he of great value asa place where we coulrl procure pure bred stock at a reasonable price. i Chas. Craig said he did notithlnk muchl that they should procure a few ofthe best. the best for the average farmer. He also‘ advocated that they be handled as dairy cattle should be, and not let the calves run with the cows all summer as had been done in the past.l-Ie also clalmedthat the Federal Government should take the past was that the men sent to procure stock for the Farm did not understand their business. _ James Affleck said he never saw much farmers near Charlottetown; and that the He thought the pedigrees of stock were the Farm paid in any way. Hs also view of its past record the Stock Farm should be sold to the highest bidder of the wostem part of this Island. He had seen some line herds of cattle which had been raised from that stock. J. Atlleok said »ll' the Farm could be remudellerl and managed so that it would not be sinking money he would be willing to retain it. A. 8. Wright said matter did not hinge on the question of whether it paid or not, but has it been a benefit to our farmers in' general i l-le thought the benchts derived more than bllanced any money loss that had been incurred. enough for stock of some good dairy breed and handle them right, we farmers would receive great benellt.. ' J. Affleck assertndlthat than was no need of going to Ontario for Bhorthorn stock, as our Island breeders have an good cattle as can be found in the Dominion. G. Pickering said the experimental part ofthe Farm wana failure. lf they had two herds of dairy cattle also two of beef cattle anna proper record kept ot the value of milk and beef produced the farmers would know what they were doing when they bought the young stock.
