Upon in- quiry,I was told that the one hundred graves that were there one hundred years ago,are nearly all washed away. Only a _part of two remain io mark the list resting place of the departed. We descended about half way and walked around a proj eciion ofsandstone, From theindications along the bank we saw the remains of four graves. The bones had fallen out and where we walked it was evident that others had ‘preceded us and pulled out the clay in search for relics of the dead. The gentleman who aided me in locating the sport told that some years _ago he found a skul. in which was a perfectly sound set oi teeth with the exception that a space had been worn f in the front by the use of a pipe. It is a sad thought as one gazes 'ic- ross the placid river until his eyes rest on Bird Island or it may be Hogg Is- land, that the rentless waves have not been content with their many victims, But have lashed the bank and disturbed those in the quietness of death, with their never ceasing activity. lt is said that some of the Indians of i Lennox Island have seen a. spirit mov- ‘ ing over the spat and have taken it as an indication that the bones should be removed and reburied. Hence a num- ber came over and took them to the Island. ~ Soma years ago many people be.- Iievedthat there was money buried in the vicinity and in order to find the treasure a mineral rod was procured. The indication was that it was hidden in an old fire place. Thither the party went but the search was fruitless and it » is now thought that the eirly inhabitants had but litt e money io conceal any where. Such then was my visit to this historic spot. ....__.__@_.__-_ ‘ _ Till! KEBLBY CURB ' _ f..?“°"° "‘°“h..,“‘i"»’.i‘t° °“-i»°“ °‘ it'sin§.”iz°:§i¢'y Insuldlisll Reference: R. C.
