MONDAY TO FRIDAY By BRIAN LINKLETTER The first event of the year for Seniors was held last Wed- nesday evening in the form of a Chili and Beer party. There was a great turnout and every- one seemed to have a great time. A short meeting was held that same evening and various Teps were chosen to represent Seniors in the different facul- ties. Just a reminder that our first pub of the year is Thurs- day, October 9th and prizes for the lottery will be drawn sometime throughout the evening. Everyone is encour- aged to attend this event from Freshmen to Seniors. It goes without saying that most Seniors will attend this pub because it is for their benefit. Thanks to all who sold and bought lottery tickets and to all who attended the Chili Party and showed great en- thusiasm and optimism for the The UPEI Biology club has been very busy since our academic year began. The success of our car wash went above and beyond our expecta- tions, and we followed that triumph with a celebratory party at Rob Kelley’s, UPEI’s fearless leader. Much draft was consumed, and thanks go year ahead. Keep up the ter- tific work, it will certainly be worth it in the end. Also special thanks to Stu who spent his time getting the lot- tery tickets made. Sincerely, Alf, Barb, Leanne and Tony MAPUS The first MAPUS meeting of this academic year was held on Tuesday, Sept. 30th in the MAPUS lounge. Two items which should interest you part-time and older than aver- age full-time students are firstly, there is a new tea-kettle in the MAPUS lounge, as well as the ingredients for making coffee and tea, so use your lounge study, unwind, socialize, snooze, whatever, but do use it. Secondly, watch for posters advertising the COPUS Atlan- tic Conference (Canadian Bio Times to Paul and Car for the potato salad, and Pius for the cole- slaw. Thanks to Mel for all those (long!) jokes. The Bios also band together for other good causes besides ourselves. Their theme is ‘‘Where we are going. How we will get there.”” Con- ferences are not only educa- tional and thought-provoking but give a student the sense of belonging, the feeling that he/she is not alone on this long road toward a degree. Aside from that, they’re FUN, so watch for the posters and plan on attending. Jackie Schofield Motion Tour and to the recent Walk-a-dog-athon for the blind. Also, a spontaneous donation to Rick Hanson was made by Daryl Guignon’s Wildlife class when we passed Rick’s entour- age on our way to our weekly Friday field trip. Rick was resting at the time, much to Wendy’s disappointment. Keep reading the Gem for exciting news about our up- coming BIO PUB on Nov. 13. It should prove to be the event of the year. The Bios are a growing organization, as more and more people realize the superiority of a well rounded education (right, Dr. Hanic?). At last count our numbers had swelled to 75. To all Bios who have not joined, you are more than welcome. Our weekly meeting is Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. in the Bio Lounge above the Amphitheatre.
