Lennox, May 25.-(Special)-The Steamer Paris is still on the rocks and it is feared cannot be floated., FAi.moU'rn. England, Moy 21.-The American Line SS. ‘Paris.’ Captain Wat- kins. from southampton and Cnerhourg. for New York, struck on the outlviug, ridge of the Mauacles early this morn- ing. at a point halt a mile from where the wrecked Atlantic transport liner °Mehegan’ lies. The ‘Paris,’ which sailed from Southampton yesterday, called at Cherhourg. and picked up ‘fifty passengers. She left Cherbourg ' at six ifclock last evening. Soon after one o’clock this morning. at high tide, and in a dense fog. she ran ashore. From the first there was no danger. Lift'-boats and tugs were soon literally swarming around the vessel to render assistance. A majority of the passengers; who`nuui- bered 380, were_brou_gii__t to, Ealniouth, where they obtained lodgings for the night. _ The first intimation of the vessel’s striking the rocks was a slight grating sound, which was followed by a second out shouted that there was something looming up ahead, b_ut before there was time to reverse the engines, the ship had gone on the rocks two hundred yards from the shore. Assistance was sum- moned by means of rockets, andthe _coast guards promp ly telephoned to the A life-saving station for lite-boats. A majority of the passengers were not aware that an accident had “bap- peued until they were called up by the stewart. On reaching the deck they found the ship’s boats in perfect readi- ness for their reception. Tha set i was perfectly calm, andthe only discomfort that the passengers experienced was ‘caused by 'tae slight rain that was fall- ins at the time. Owing to the calm- lfness of the ses the boats could be man- aged with entire safety. Perfect order _prevailed aboard the vessel." Captain Watkins stood ou- the bridge, giving orders, and hislcaimuess ff demeanor had (reassuring effect upon the pas- sengers.
