The Miramichi arrived from Montreal via Summerside about five o’clock yester- day afternoon, and left on return to Mon- treal via Pictou about midnight. She had a general cargo both ways The Fastnet arrived here from Summer side this morning, and leaves for Halifax this afternoon. ‘iinet Ivrorration oy Cartie.— On Thursday last a cargo of cattle, fifteen in number, were brought over from Point du Chene in the Northumberland. There were fif- teen on leaving Point du Chene, but six- teen on arrival at Summerside, the new- comer being promptly named “Northum- herland.” These cattle were imported from St. Philips, P. Q., by Mr. Patrick Manning, of Rolio Bay, who was here Thursday night. They are called Quebec Jerseys, and are, we understand, regis- tered. They are quite small in Jersey conformation, and black or nearly They are, it is claimed, a size, of 6O ifn color. very superior class of dairy cattle, beinz extra good milkers and easily kept, and it is expected that they will prove a popular breed in King’s County. Tho-e imported by Mr. Manning were very thin, but no doubt they will quickly improve when uniformly favorable to the government’s taking steps to meet Brazi!’s so-called arrogant pretensions. A lawsuit over Dr. Emin’s papers has been begun at Berlin. One claimant is Ferida, Emin’s daughter by an Abyssinian woman and generally regarded as his heir; the other is a woman living in Con- stantinople who asserts that she is Emin’s lesal wife and produces a certificate, signed apparently by Emin, to prove the legitimacy of their child Paulina. The proof in the latter case seems to be com- plete. In 1874 Dr. Emin was staying in Neisse, his birthplace, and this is the year from which the certificate dates. The woman says the marriage took place in Constantinople. It is suggested that the existence of this family had much to do with Emin’s refusal to return with Stanley to Europe, for he had several families in Africa at the time. Mr. Irving has brought back some cur- ious experiences from America. In one city he was entertained by a club who pro- vided him with a table cloth of gold. After dinner they conducted him to a darkened vault, where the most famous characters which he impersonates ap- peared before him in a ghostly fashion, and apostrophised him with startling direct- | ness. Finally, they danced round him with a wild chorus, and then the lights were turned up, disclosing the vivacious Mr. Irving appears to have entered into the spirit of this frolic with the utmost heartiness, and he afterwards sent to the members of the club five hun- dred bound passes for the masqneraders. morocco All in need of crockery and glassware would do well to call and see our new goods which we -are selling so cheap, at W P Colwill. dw 4w DIED At Cove Head Road on the 15th inst, Hilda Agnes infant daughter of John and Annie Whelan, aged two months and fifteen days.
