Wednesday, Feb. 1. . ‘CHURCH MEETINGS HELD - During the month of January the annual meetings oi the Souris- Bay Fortune charge were held. Both meetings were well attend-ed and very encouraging reports were presented by all organiza- tions wiithin the congregations. During the year the interior of the Bay Fortune church was com- pletely redecorated, and the ex-, terior of the Soiiris church re- shingled. The manse at Souris had been completely furnished and many repairs were made to it. All financial allocations were met by every organization and the M. and M. Fund reached its objec- tive of $550.00. It was planned that the minister's salary should be increased in i950 to meet the full objective set by General Council for 1951. Twenty-one new mem- hers were received into full mem- bership with the church during the year. Montague To Gel Modern Fire Fighting Equipment Following the recent fire loss of the Masonic Temple on Friday 188i. a group of citizens met with the Town Council for the ptmpose of devising s more effioen-t mode of operation for the equipment. It was proposed by the group that s. fire department of seven or eight meirnbers be foamed who would be on call at all times. It’. was also further proposed that adnilzzer system be installed in the home of eaich member. such a system to be ted from a. central switch at the Town Hall. The appointment of Mr. Murray Johnston as fire chief is expected to be made in the near future. Mr. Johnston has had oonsidenaflale ex- perience on the fine department of the city oi St. John. and with the support of this proposed pemnsnent group, an efficient department should be forthcoming The decisions to be made wore placed in the hands of the fire committee of the Town Council: Messrs. Doug Coffin. B. I-i. Yen. and R. W. Book. Also under con- sideration is the purchase of anew additional pumper which would be s. vital addition to the equipment. Iit is possible. however. that the purchase of s. nfhole new unit might prove to be the most advis- able in the long run Since the pres- ent. fire truck is not. overly com» mcndsible for efficiency. Of course. the immediate argumentation of luck of necessary funds is instantly recognized. and since it might he lnsidvlsalble at this particular time to raise the taxes again, the argumentation is well founded. Nevertheless, it might be DOSSlblo to lay aside each year ll definite amount tovuards the evcntllflil Dill" chase of such iinore GYIIICIOHI. equip- ment.
