Soy A leading Liverpool grain circular of July 25th says : the somewhat more favorable though dull weather, the grain trade at the avricultural markets this week has been lesa active. Prices, however, are well supported, and in some instances slight- ly improved. Cargoes are firmly held, but buyers show little disposition to operate at this moment either in: off- coast or for shipment. At the Liver- pool and the neighboring markets the transaction in wheat have been merely retail fn their character at Tuesday's prices. Corn is again rather dearer. The attendance at this market to day (iriday) was very thin, and the busi- ness in wheat on a limited scale. White sorts nearly maintain Tuesday’s prices, but red about 2d ‘per cental lower. There was a steady consumptive de- mand for flour at a previous rate. There was a good business in corn, with some speculative transactions. Poth old and new mixed adyaneed a penny per centail. An Army Sacrep sy A CLoup’s Suapow.—One night lately Major West, ot the Fifty-eighth, being in charge of the picket, thought that he saw Zulus advancing down the hills on the left face of the laager. He ordered the alarm to be given to the soldiers out- side the laager. These rushed in amid great confusion, took up their position inside the front face, and with or with- out orders, opened a fearful fire before the pickets had time to getin. The fire gradually spread around all four faces of the laager, and two companies of the Royal Engineers, under charge of Capt. Jackson, who were outside, re- mined stretched on the ground for ten minutes whilst the heavy fire was pour- ed over them. ‘The artillery fired two shots, mistaking the shadow thrown by a cloud passing over the moonon the hills for an advancing column of Zulus. Our casualities in this scare were four men badly wounded and four missing. These casualities in the headquarter column are to be attributed to the high state of nervousness into which the men are put by the various false alarms.— Zululand Correspondence London Stan- dard. -—- + <£2)e fe -—————_—-— Pope Leo rises early, and, after his devotions, gives himself up to study until the hour set for audiences or as- sembling of the congregations over which he presides. Althongh in deli- cate health, he works hard, and makes his houschold do the same. Like the majority of Italians of southern Italy, the Pepe has only one regular repast a day, at about one o'clock. He is an enemy to the delicacies of the table, anil his fare is much more meagre than that of many of his curates. He eats boiled mush, which takes the place of soup, % little boiled or Jroasted meat, rarely, vegetables cheese made of goats’ milk, and drinks ordinary wine. Even on the day of his election to the Papacy he sent back the roast beef given to him, and asked in its place a second plate of soup. > _-<-. Louisey Victoria and Maud, the young daughters of the Prince of Wales, rare- ly appear in public but in the simplest of dresses. A fatal epidemic has broken out among the hogs in the vicinity of this city. One dealer, on Monday last, lost nearly twenty from the mysterious disease. With praise- worthy caution, the butchers of the city have determined to kill no more hogs until they can ascertain the nature gf the plague. ; When attacked “by the epidemic, the neck of the porcine swells up to a large size, and the ammal dies within two hours, appar- ently from suffocation. Several of the atiected animals were: depacitated before death, and, strange to say, very little blood flowed from either the head or the trunk. The flesh was of a soft consistency and of a whitish color. The disease is supposed to * a species of diphtheria.— Winnipeg tines, Liver is King. ‘The liver is the imperial. organ of the ISALT! SALT! Harvie, Esq., Brockville, Ont, :— Dear Srr—It is now two years since your ‘‘Censtitutional Catarrli Remedy’ was intro- duced to me. ‘I have waited this ong to see if the Cure would remain. permanent before do- ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to be true.” I was afflicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh.~ In reading in your Circular I saw my case describedin many par ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop”’ from the head had become’ very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit upin the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re- lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for acold.in my head. A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts ‘me to send’ you this Certificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W.
