Each morning the Vacation School opens with a period of wor- ship led by the ministers in turn. Then there is a fifteen minute per- lod of singing. The remainder of the morning is spent in project work. handicraft. and memory work. concluding with another fif- teen minutes of worship. The value of Vacation school is difficult to estimate. Bedeque Man Appointed Acting Headmaster At Mount Allison Academy SACKVILLE. N. B., July 23 - Dr. W. T. Ross Flemlngton, Pres- ident of Mount Allison University. has announced the appointment of Alden Douglas Leard of Bedeque. P. E. 1., as scting Headmaster of Mount Allison Academy and Com- mercial College, succeeding Ken- neth A. Parker who has accepted A position as Superintendent of Schools in Charlottetown. Mr. Leard was appointed to the staff of Mounti Allison Academy and Commercial College in 1939 when Dr. Flemington was Head- master there. .His first teaching was in the academic work but later he became the very success- ful Director of the Commercial College and lecturer in Commerce at the University. With twelve years at Mount Allison. Mr. Leard takes over this new position with a thorough knowledge of the school and its traditions. Station. Bum- merslde. is here today on tempor- ary duty fol' a short visit. Flying Officer G.R. (Vic) Merl- thew of St. Catharines. 0nt.. was posted to R.C.A.F. Station here in July, 1940, while the airport was under construction. He was then a. corporal charged with the organization of a com- petent security guard. Durlng the next three months he was not only the first airman but the only airman on the sta- tion until l5 aircrew trainees ar- rived in September. 1940, to form 3 a security guard. Having been the first airman on. Station Summerside, he dupllcat,ed' this distinction during the next two months by being the first and only airman at R.C.A.P. airport then under construction at Char- lottetown.
