Cranbrook, B.C. -— Aulder Clark Bowness. a resi- dent of this city for 48 years, and Mayor for the years 1912. i013 and i915. died at Victoria on Wednes- day. May 4th. in St. Joseph's Hos- pital. following an operation. He was the proprietor oi the soft drink factory on Van Horne Street, which was sold to the prg. sent owner in August, 194B. Deceased was also engaged for some years in the motor trucking business, having pioneered this type of service in, thisydvistrict on a large scale with s. fleet of vans and trucks. He was also the agent and distributor for the Shell Oil Company for some years. He re- linquished the trucking business in January. i945. Mr. Bowness was the owner o! a number of business properties in the city, including the Cosmopoli- tan Hotel and the Cross Keys I>{\~- tel. At one time he owned the Edison Theatre which was situat- ed on Baker Street at m; {My 9g Norbury, now 10th Avenue. and the Bowness Block in Kimberley. which properties he later sold.
